Do you take your family on vacation during July 4th to North Myrtle Beach? For the majority of the merchants in NMB, this week is likely the biggest one yet. Some businesses around the US take that week off and require their staff to take a vacation during that time. The summer prime season is currently in full swing. That week, there is a lot of demand for fantastic beach vacation homes. Since July 4th in 2024 falls on a Thursday, you would need to start your vacation week on Saturday, June 29th, if you wanted to attend the fireworks in NMB. Many families have already reserved that week for their vacation, as far as we know. Call us right away if you’re still considering going to the beach for the Fourth of July.  The best homes and condos may already be taken that week.

Fireworks in Cherry Grove

Each year, fireworks are set off from the Cherry Grove Pier. Oceanfront homes and resort condos in Cherry Grove put you right in front of the action. You can expect the show to begin around 9:30 pm and go on for about 30 minutes. If you are playing in the sand and water that day, be ready to stay for one of the best fireworks shows in the Grand Strand. If you are staying with us, please share some pictures with us on our Grand Strand Vacations facebook page or send them to us via email. Updates are usually posted on the City of North Myrtle Beach Website

It is important that you are aware that the use of personal fireworks within the city limits of North Myrtle Beach is against the law. We ask that you stay safe and enjoy the free show that is being put on by the city at the Cherry Grove Pier.

Salute from the Shore

The Salute from the Shore is an event that takes place on July 4th and is one of the highlights of the day. People visiting the state as well as those who live there assemble on the sand each year at the same time to watch airplanes fly over the coast of South Carolina. If you are staying in the Cherry Grove area, you should make it a point to be in the vicinity of the beach no later than one in the afternoon. The flyover schedule may be seen on their Facebook page under the name SalutefromtheShore, and additional information can be found on their website under the same name, Salute from the Shore.

Food in North Myrtle Beach

We love dining out in North Myrtle Beach. Some of our favorite items that we enjoy are listed below on this page

5 Menu Items and Places to Order

Fried Flounder at Hoskins Restaurant on Main Street  – We love the Meat and 3 Specials at Hoskins for Lunch and can’t wait to get back. On Tuesday’s, I usually get the Half Flounder with Cabbage, Field Peas and Corn. You can’t beat the Homemade  Biscuits. Check before you go. They close during the off season.

Cheeseburger at Shag City Grill inside of Fat Harold’s on Main Street – If you visit NMB, you have probably been to Fat Harold’s.  Eating at the Shag City Grill was always on my list before I moved to the beach full time. I am ready to get back to the Home of the Shag.

Chicken Tenders and Tavern Salad from Hickory Tavern at Coastal Town North –  One of our favorite lunch spots is the Hickory Tavern. We love the Tavern Salad with house dressing. The Chicken Tenders are some of the best at the beach.

Fried Pork Chops Special at Captain Archie’s in NMB on the Waterway. When Pork Chops are on the special, we try to go there to order lunch. There are a lot of great things to eat at Captain Archie’s.

Lava Shrimp at J. Peters Grill and Bar on Hwy 17 – One of the newest restaurants in North Myrtle Beach features entrees and appetizers with very generous portions. We probably eat there once a week.

We could add so many to this list. Tell us what you miss and look forward to ordering when you are able to visit North Myrtle Beach restaurants again.

Beach Music North Myrtle Beach

Beach Music is played in North Myrtle Beach. You probably know what Beach Music is if you have ever visited NMB.  Frequent the clubs and lounges on Main Street in Ocean Drive to hear it daily. If you haven’t heard of it, you need to hear the music we call “Carolina Beach Music”. There are many recollections of how it got started. People that live in North Myrtle Beach will say it started here in the Grand Strand area of South Carolina. There are several cities and towns in North Carolina that also claim to be the birthplace. It doesn’t matter where it started. If you are a fan of the music and the official state dance of SC, you need to visit North Myrtle Beach. Plan to visit as much as possible to shag on the dance floors and listen to the best music in the world.

SOS  – 3 Times a Year in NMB

Some of the biggest events in Beach Music happen in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Plan to attend SOS, which stands for Society of Stranders. They throw some major parties. Spring Safari, Fall Migration and Midwinter Break are held every year. The clubs on Main Street feature live bands and DJs for 10 days in the Spring and Fall. The first event of the year, Midwinter Break, is a long weekend in January. You will have to check out the schedule for various workshops and other events they have during the year. Membership is currently $35/year if you purchase from one of the Member Shag Clubs or participating clubs.

SOS Clubs and Lounges

Check out Fat Harolds, Ducks, OD Arcade, and the clubs at OD Beach & Golf Resort; Spanish Galleon and HOTO’s. We also recommend you check out Deckerz Bar & Grill located at the intersection of Hillside and Main. They have some of the best food and LIVE Bands just about every night of the week.

Beach Music Events

Festivals and Band Events like the Carolina Beach Music Awards are a major attraction to the city of NMB. Bands play live in the streets and clubs all over Main Street. Look at our  Events Calendar for News about upcoming Events like the Ocean Drive Beach Music Festival held the first Saturday in May.  There are many events held at the Resort in the Spanish Galleon and HOTO’s Beach Club located inside the OD Resort.

Little River Restaurants

Clark’s Seafood and Chop House
This place is just across the big bridge on 17 in Little River. It offers a great view of the Coquina Harbor. They have a great selection of steaks and seafood. We love the salad with grilled salmon at lunch time. If you are looking for a good place to go, try Clark’s in Little River.

The Brentwood
If you are looking for an experience in a setting not typical of most restaurants in the area, check out the Brentwood in Little River. It is on the left-hand side of the road travelling north on 17. It is an old house converted into a restaurant. Chef Eric Masson has a pretty expansive wine collection with many of the dishes paired with his choice of wine.

Parson’s Table
This is another restaurant located in Little River across the big bridge. Head North and look for Parson’s Table on the right-hand side of the road before you get to Mineola Drive. It is an old church building. Reservations are definitely recommended to plan ahead. They are not open every day and tend to close earlier than other places in the area.

Restaurants – Cherry Grove/Ocean Drive

Carrabba’s Italian Grill
Yes this is a chain, but it is one of our favorite places for filets and Italian dishes. Our office loves to meet at Carraba’s for company parties. If you have a larger group, the bar area is great for groups looking to enjoy drinks and appetizers.

Filet’s on the Waterfront
Great Views of the ICW. Check out Filet’s for steaks, seafood and SUSHI. Located near the swing bridge in Cherry Grove. This is another local’s favorite that you should check out if you haven’t already.

The Grille House
Just off 2nd Avenue North, you will find another local’s favorite. The Grill House offers traditional dishes, several different cuts of steaks as well as seafood specials.

Bonefish Grille
Yes Bonefish Grille is another chain restaurant, but we love this place for seafood. The bang bang shrimp are one of our favorite appetizers at the beach. Many places try to copy, but we find them best at Bonefish. They have a great selection of steak and seafood entrees.

Hoskins Restaurant
Don’t let the casual atmosphere fool ya. Hoskins has one of the best Seafood Platters at the beach. You will probably see a line most every day. There is a reason locals and visitors choose Hoskins for Breakfast Lunch and Dinner. We love Hoskins on Main Street.

Restaurants – Windy Hill/Barefoot Landing

Joe’s Bar & Grill
Head south on 17 to Windy Hill section of NMB and find Joe’s Bar & Grill across from Barefoot Landing. This has been a local’s favorite for years. You can’t go wrong with any of the steaks or seafood dishes. Ask your server about the Raccoon Run out back.

Greg Norman’s Australian Grill
This is one of the many restaurants located in Barefoot Landing. You will probably see a group of golfers if you visit Greg Norman’s just about anytime of the year. Many of the local courses recommend it as one of the best.
